Celebrate American Legion 100th anniversary in Barrington

As a part of Barrington's continuing series of Summer Fun Thursdays, the village will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the American Legion with live music by local band Beamish, sloppy joe dinners for $5, a dunk tank and more.

Festivities will run from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cook and Station streets in downtown Barrington. Classic cars also are welcome.

Patty Dowd Schmitz, director of communications, marketing and events for Barrington, said Paul Corwin of VFW Post 7706 worked closely with officials to put together the event. Veterans will sell the sloppy joe meals. Proceeds from the dinners and the dunk tank will go to the VFW and American Legion.
