Former Glendale Heights man gets 30 years for sexual assault

A former Glendale Heights man, Henry Morales, was sentenced Tuesday to 30 years in prison for sexually assaulting his former girlfriend in spring 2016.

Morales, 31, entered an agreed plea of guilty to one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault in front of DuPage County Judge Robert Miller. Morales has been held in DuPage County jail on $1 million bail since the assault.

Authorities said Morales was armed with a large knife at 1:45 a.m. March 22, 2016, when he broke into his former girlfriend's home in an unincorporated area near West Chicago. Once inside, Morales sexually assaulted the woman at knife point, authorities said.

An investigation by DuPage sheriff's deputies led them to Morales, who was taken into custody later that same day without incident.

"This morning, Henry Morales admitted that he broke into his former girlfriend's home in the middle of the night while she was sleeping and sexually assaulted her," DuPage State's Attorney Robert Berlin said Tuesday in a written statement. "His admission of guilt, however, does nothing to restore the feeling of safety and security that a home provides and that was once enjoyed by his victim. He violated the sanctity of her home, he violated her and for this he will spend a significant amount of time behind bars."

Morales will be required to serve 85% of his sentence before being eligible for parole. The sentence also requires that he register as a sex offender for life.
