Police: Men arrested with stolen vehicle in Carpentersville; one faces weapons charges

Carpentersville police arrested and charged two Harvey men with possession of a stolen vehicle Wednesday, and one of the men also faces weapons charges.

Keaunte J. Ashley, 19, of the 200 block of Streamside Drive, and Corbyn C. Parnel-Humphrey, 20, of the 100 block of East 151st Street, were arrested after police said they saw a suspicious vehicle in the Fox View apartment complex around 1 p.m.

A registration check of the silver Nissan Sentra showed it was stolen in Freeport, police said.

Officers saw Ashley and Parnel-Humphrey walking in the parking lot. Officers arrested Parnel-Humphrey, but Ashley ran into a wooded area in the northeast corner of the complex, police said.

Authorities surrounded the area, called for backup and eventually arrested Ashley in the yard of a home on the 300 block of Amarillo Drive, police said.

During the arrest, Ashley struggled with officers and police found a loaded 9 mm handgun, authorities said.

In addition to the two counts of a possession of a stolen vehicle that each man faces, Ashley is charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owner's Identification card, and misdemeanor resisting arrest, according to police and Kane County court records.

Parnel-Humphrey also is charged with driving without a valid license.

Parnell-Humphrey's bail was set at Thursday at $10,000, meaning he must post $1,000 to be released while the case is pending.

Ashley's bail was set at $35,000, meaning he must post $3,500 to be released.

Each man is due in court on Aug. 14 and could face a sentence ranging from probation to up to seven years in prison if convicted of the most severe charges.
