'ICE will come': Naperville gas station clerk's remarks to Hispanic customers generate protest

Protesters rallied outside a Naperville gas station Wednesday after video of an employee questioning Hispanic customers' citizenship status went viral.

The demonstrators want the owners of the Bucky's station on Washington Street to fire the store clerk for the comments they have deemed racist.

After a bike ride Tuesday, two sisters visiting from Mexico and other relatives stopped at the gas station. One of their cousins from Naperville, Indira Buitron, 15, went inside to buy a bag of chips. Indira said the clerk looked at her family waiting outside and asked her if her Mexican cousins were legal.

Another Naperville cousin, Carolina Buitron, then went inside to confront the clerk.

On the video, the clerk is heard asking, "Are you a citizen?" and "Don't you know the rules?" Buitron says she is a citizen. In an ensuing argument, the clerk says, "I'm an American" and "they need to go back to their country." "ICE will come," he says.
