Grayslake Gelatin Co. exhibit

A new exhibit, "Sounds, Smells and a Smokestack: Remembering Grayslake Gelatin" will open at noon, Saturday, July 20, at the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum, 164 Hawley St., Grayslake. The exhibit traces the history of the Grayslake Gelatin Co. from it beginnings in 1922 to its closing, demolition and subsequent development of a new village park, Gelatin Park, on the site of the old factory. Included in the exhibit will be artifacts and images of the historic factory. How gelatin is manufactured will be explained. It will explore the sounds and smells that people remember. Attendees will be encouraged to develop recipes using Grayslake gelatin. The museum is open on Wednesdays from noon to 7 p.m., and Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. For information, visit http://www.villageofgrayslake.com/385/Heritage-Center
