Scoop Waukegan 2019 will bring cars, music, food and fun to downtown Waukegan from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 12, and noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 13. The event also features the Waukegan Days Carnival both days and Gospel on the Beach Saturday.

Festivities start with the open Scoop at 5 p.m. Friday. The open Scoop is a vehicle parade open to all participants. Registration is limited to the first 1,000 classic and custom cars. There is no registration fee; all rules of the road apply; and no burnouts, reckless driving, or drinking and driving are permitted.

The Scoop returns Saturday with a “Cruise In & Park” car show — with free entry and check-in starting at 11 a.m. at Water and Sheridan — followed by the open Scoop at 5 p.m. Trophies will be awarded in a variety of categories.

During the Scoop, enjoy food and beverages from a variety of vendors and live music, including free concerts by headliners Larry Wimmer and Friends at 8 p.m. Friday and Second Hand Soul Band at 8 p.m. Saturday on the Main Stage at Genesee and Water streets.

Other free Main Stage performances on Saturday include DJ Spontaneous at noon, Trombone Dave and the Lawn Clippings at 3 p.m., and Rafael Mendez & the Fabulous House Rockers at 5:30 p.m.

Saturday entertainment at the Scoop will also include Lowriders & Luchadores, a free show that features lowrider cars and professional Mexican wrestling from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Sheridan and Clayton streets, and a concert by Creedence Revived at 7 p.m. at the Genesee Theatre, 203 N. Genesee St., for $30.

Gospel on the Beach will take place from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Stiner Pavilion at Waukegan Municipal Beach, 201 E. Sea Horse Drive. Bring a lawn chair to listen to performances, including headliner Todd Galberth. Admission and parking are free.

Both days also include rides and games at the Waukegan Days Carnival at County and Clayton streets during Scoop hours.

Admission is free. For details, visit scoopwaukegan.com or call (847) 650-1905.
