Coroner: Pedestrian killed after hit by freight train in Geneva

A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a freight train Friday in Geneva, Kane County Coroner Rob Russell said.

Russell said his office is investigating, and it is unclear whether it was an accident or a suicide.

Metra officials said they first received an alert at 4:09 p.m. that the train struck the pedestrian at Peck Road, which is not a station.

Metra said two trains were affected; traffic was stopped for 40 minutes, then traveled at a restricted speed.

Geneva police were unable to provide further details.
