Libertyville students getting a head start on next school year

Libertyville School District 70 students entering kindergarten through eighth grade in the next school year are in their final weeks of the district's summer school program.

About 150 students have been meeting at Rockland School and almost 1,200 students have been attending classes at nearby Highland Middle School.

The five-week program will come to a close July 11.

There's an animal theme this week at Rockland, where students made animals masks to wear and take home. Spanish teacher Kristy Treven rotated through the classrooms, helping students make maracas and singing songs in Spanish.

Upcoming events planned at Highland Middle School include orchestra concerts July 3 and July 10 and cheerleading performances July 11.
