District 214 awarded state grant for teacher leadership

Northwest Suburban High School District 214 received a $50,000 state grant to develop and retain teacher leaders, the Illinois State Board of Education announced this week.

The funding was part of $1 million awarded to seven school districts statewide to help strengthen the teaching profession and alleviate a statewide educator shortage.

District 214's award amount is for the Teacher Leadership Problems of Practice Grant program, which helps districts address local challenges to developing and retaining teacher leaders, officials said.

Separate grants were awarded to districts for teacher residency programs.
