Carpentersville man arrested in Elgin on gun charges

A 21-year-old Carpentersville man is being held on gun charges after his arrest in Elgin, police said.

About 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, officers from the Gang Crimes Unit and the Unit for Special Assignment made contact with Marcelo Villagomez Jr., of the first block of South Green Street, Carpentersville, on the 700 block of Adams Street, Elgin. He was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun, police said.

He was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. At a court hearing on Friday, bail was set at $50,000.

Because he was on parole, the Illinois Department of Corrections issued a parole violation warrant, meaning Villagomez will remain in the custody of the Kane County jail, police said.
