Woman fatally struck by freight train near O'Hare

A woman was struck and killed early Thursday by a freight train near O'Hare International Airport in Elk Grove Township, authorities said.
The unidentified pedestrian was struck by a Canadian National Railway train at 12:25 a.m. near Touhy Avenue and Mount Prospect Road, said Sophia Ansari, a spokeswoman with the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Ansari said.
The sheriff's police are assisting Union Pacific Railroad, which owns the railways on which the train was traveling, in the investigation.
An autopsy is scheduled by the Cook County medical examiner's office.
