Zion man charged with murder of missing veteran

A 57-year-old Zion man is being held in the murder of a man who has been missing for two months, Zion police announced Friday.

Vincent C. Bevly was scheduled to appear in bond court this morning in the death of Cory J. Rhinehart, who was reported missing March 18, according to a news release by police.

Members of the Lake County Sheriff's Gang Task Force took Bevly into custody on a $5 million warrant related to two counts of first-degree murder, police said.

The arrest is the culmination of a long investigation, the details of which were not revealed in the statement from Zion Police Chief Stephen J. Dumyahn. He would only say that the results of the investigation show that Rhinehart was murdered by Bevly before he was reported missing.

According to ABC 7, Rhinehart, a military veteran from Zion, was last seen by his family March 15. A family spokesperson said police traced a 911 call from the day he went missing to an apartment building near the last place he was seen.
