Police: Lake in the Hills homes evacuated after Huntley student's threat

Homes in Lake in the Hills were evacuated Thursday afternoon as police investigated what they say turned out to be an unfounded bomb threat by a Huntley High School student.

The police department said in a news release that a 15-year-old boy from Lake in the Hills had said he made bombs at home and wanted to bring them to school.

Police learned of student's comments around noon Thursday and interviewed the boy, who they say told them he didn't plan on acting on the threat. No dangerous items were found in his belongings, police said, and search determined there was no threat to the school.

Lake in the Hills police evacuated neighbors as the Kane County sheriff's bomb squad searched the boy's home on the 2900 block of Hillsboro Lane, the release said.

A number of nearby roads were blocked off during the investigation. No bombs were found, and the scene was cleared around 4 p.m., police said.

Huntley Community School District 158 and law enforcement are still reviewing the case, the news release said.
