Woman critically injured in Beach Park crash

A 27-year-old Waukegan woman suffered life-threatening injuries early Monday when a car she was riding in crashed into a utility pole and several trees in Beach Park, authorities said.

The woman was a passenger in a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette that witnesses said was traveling "excessively fast" on southbound Sheridan Road when its driver lost control near North Ganster Road, drove off the roadway and struck the pole and trees, according to the Lake County sheriff's office.

The woman was found unconscious outside the car. She was flown by helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical injuries, sheriff's police said. The car's driver, a 23-year-old Waukegan man, was taken to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan with nonlife-threatening injuries, officials said. The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County sheriff's office
