Police searching for pickup truck driver who struck girl on bicycle near St. Charles

Authorities are searching for the driver of a pickup truck that struck and seriously injured a 7-year-old girl riding a bicycle Sunday afternoon in St. Charles Township.

The girl, who lives in the area, was hit by a black Dodge pickup truck about 1:05 p.m. near the intersection of Geneva and Courier avenues, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office. The truck drove away and was found abandoned a few blocks from the scene.

The girl was airlifted to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries, police said.

The driver is described as a white man, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing roughly 120 pounds, officials said. He had a ponytail and was wearing tan pants.

Authorities believe the man fled the area on foot. As of Sunday evening, he had not been found.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 911.
