Northwest Highway resurfacing will begin this week

Resurfacing and patching of portions of Northwest Highway stretching from Vail Avenue in Arlington Heights to Vernon Avenue in Park Ridge will begin this week, causing daytime lane and sidewalk closures, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced.

In addition to the resurfacing, the work will include installation of new sidewalk pedestrian ramps.

The work from Vail Avenue in Arlington Heights to State Street in Des Plaines is expected to be complete by June 2020, and overnight lane closures are possible.

The work from Western Avenue in Des Plaines to Vernon Avenue in Park Ridge is expected to be done by the end of October. There will be no lane closures along that stretch Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. for eastbound lanes and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for westbound lanes.

Drivers should expect delays and allow extra time for trips through this area, IDOT says. Drivers also are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
