Grayslake potter wins prominent art award

Grayslake potter Neil Estrick won the Newcomer Award from The 57th Street Art Fair committee, the group announced Wednesday.

Estrick, who owns a self-named studio in Grayslake, has been making pottery for 26 years and primarily works in wheel-thrown porcelain. In addition to making and showing off his works, he uses his space to teach pottery to children and adults. He also offers workshops for teachers, sells kilns and other pottery equipment, and repairs pottery kilns and wheels in the Chicago and Milwaukee areas.

As part of the reward for winning, Estrick will receive a free booth at the 72nd annual 57th Street Art Fair in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago on June 1 and 2. More information about the event is at www.57thstreetartfair.org.
