Driver cited after rollover crash in Barrington

An 18-year-old woman walked away with only minor injuries Wednesday morning after her SUV flipped over and she had to be extricated following a four-vehicle crash in Barrington.

The driver will be cited for failure to yield while turning left from Northwest Highway to northbound Hart Road, according to Assistant Barrington Police Chief John Burke.

Police say the driver was turning left in her GMC Yukon at 7:46 a.m. when she was struck by two vehicles headed in the opposite direction. The Yukon spun and rolled on its roof, in the process hitting another vehicle that was stopped at a red light at Hart Road, Burke said.

The driver and her father, who was a passenger, were removed from the car by firefighters. She was taken to a hospital, along with an elderly occupant of another car involved in the crash, with minor injuries. All others were treated at the scene, Burke said.

The rollover crash closed nearby roads during the morning rush hour in order to safely get emergency vehicles there, he said.
