Aurora man could go to prison up to 30 years for gun possession
An Aurora man is going to prison after a jury convicted him of unlawfully possessing a gun, authorities said Wednesday.
Marcus T. Walker, 31, previously of the 2100 block of South 15th Street, was found guilty of the offense of armed habitual criminal following a two-day trial that concluded Tuesday, according to the Kane County state's attorney's office.
A person commits the offense of armed habitual criminal when he or she knowingly possesses a firearm after being convicted of at least two qualifying gun-related offenses.
Prosecutors presented evidence that Walker possessed a gun while in Aurora on Oct. 5, 2016. When interviewed by Aurora police, Walker told them he bought the gun, which he knew he was prohibited from possessing, authorities said.
Walker had been convicted of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon in 2009 and 2012. He served prison time for both crimes, according to prosectors.
Walker's next court appearance is set for 1:30 p.m. June 14, when he could be sentenced between 6 and 30 years in prison, authorities said.
