Bail set for driver charged in I-355 wrong-way crash that injured pregnant woman

Bail was set at $25,000 for a Plainfield man accused of causing a head-on crash while driving the wrong way on I-355 in Downers Grove early Sunday morning, according to a news release Monday from the DuPage County state's attorney's office.

The crash seriously injured a pregnant woman, the release said.

Marco Alegria was driving south in the wrong direction on I-355 near Butterfield Road when he crashed head-on into a northbound vehicle, according to the release.

The woman driving that vehicle suffered a fractured leg and a broken ankle and will need hip surgery, the release said. Doctors also had to induce labor due to her injuries, according to the release, and the baby has placed in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Alegria's blood alcohol content was .13, prosecutors said.

Alegria's next court appearance is scheduled for May 29. He must post 10% of his bail to be released pending trial.
