Passover begins with Seders throughout the suburbs

Daily Herald report

Passover began at sunset Friday, with families gathering around the Seder table to recall the Jews' exodus from slavery in ancient Egypt.

At the Jewish Center for Youth Services in Buffalo Grove, a community Seder earlier in the day featured Passover foods, including matzo.

Many families also will attend a second Seder on Saturday, which like the first involves the retelling of the exodus story, prayers and symbolic foods. Bitter herbs, for example, symbolize the bitterness of slavery.

Throughout the holiday, Jews observing the dietary rules do not eat bread and many other foods.
