Oakton Community College chooses new IT leader

Oakton Community College on Thursday announced the appointment of Prashant Shinde as the college's chief information officer, effective Monday, May 6.

Shinde is currently the chief information officer at Chicago State University. In his new role, he will lead the Information Technology Division, including application development, application management, network services, infrastructure services and system administration, IT security, media and web services, and user support services. The CIO also has oversight for enterprise security of information systems and processes.

"Prashant is an innovative leader and will help us deliver outstanding digital and IT transformation projects for our students, staff and academic community," Oakton Vice President for Administrative Affairs Edwin Chandrasekar said in an announcement of the appointment.

Shinde has more than 16 years experience managing technology in higher education, including the past seven years at Chicago State. Prior to Chicago State, he spent two years at Northbrook-based Allstate Insurance and was employed by Alcorn State University as director of academic technologies, instructor and technology consultant from 2002 to 2010.
