Wheeling appoints trustee to replace board member who died in February

Wheeling village trustees this week backed Village President Pat Horcher's choice to fill the board vacancy left by the death of Trustee Ken Brady in February.

James Ruffatto, previously chairman of the village's plan commission, was approved unanimously by the board, with Trustee Ray Lang abstaining from the vote because Ruffatto is his brother-in-law.

Horcher said that Ruffatto has big shoes to fill after the loss of Brady, who served 14 years on the village board and 17 years on the village's plan commission.

"I hope I've selected someone who can do that," Horcher said.

Brady died after he suffered a fall, family members said.

Ruffatto will be sworn into office May 6, when trustees elected in April also take their oaths.
