Report: Bolingbrook officer hit by vehicle, leading to chase and gunfire

A Bolingbrook police officer was struck while responding to a crash Wednesday night, causing a chase that included gunfire and ended in Naperville, according to reports.

ABC 7 is reporting that the police officer was at the scene of a motorcycle crash at Boughton and Weber roads in Bolingbrook when a vehicle struck the officer. The driver fled, and officers chased the vehicle until the pursuit ended at Washington Street and Naper Boulevard in Naperville, ABC 7 reported.

There were shots fired, but police did not release more information, according to ABC 7.

The police officer who was struck by the vehicle is in stable condition, ABC 7 reported.

The police investigation has closed Naper Boulevard from Riverwoods Drive to Washington Street, authorities say.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area.

"There is no threat to the public, but there continues to be a large police presence in the area," Naperville officials said.

Bolingbrook Public Safety Director Ken Teppel did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
