Bartlett house left uninhabitable after blaze

A two-story single-family home was left uninhabitable in Bartlett following a fire there Thursday, authorities said Friday.

Bartlett Fire District crews arrived at the home on the 900 block of Grant Street at 2:07 p.m. Thursday and reported heavy fire from the back side of the house that also extended into the attic, according to a news release.

Firefighters used one hose line to aggressively attack the fire from the rear exterior, another hose line to attack the fire from the interior, and a supply line connected to a fire hydrant. They opened numerous walls and ceilings to expose the fire for extinguishment. Multiple attic spaces had extensive fire present, officials said.

The blaze was under control at 2:23 p.m.

No civilians or firefighters were injured, but because the building was left uninhabitable, the homeowners were displaced.

A damage estimate was not available, and the cause of the fire remained under investigation.

A total of 21 firefighters from Bartlett and Hanover Park responded to the scene.
