Bond set at $2 million for Beach Park man charged in triple fatality

Bond was set at $2 million in cash Tuesday for a Beach Park man accused of reckless homicide after a crash Sunday that killed three people in Bristol, Wisconsin,

Timothy G. Vandervere, 40, of the 38000 block of North Tewes Court was charged with three felony counts of reckless homicide and knowingly operating a vehicle on a revoked license that caused a death. He also is charged with single felony counts of knowingly operating a vehicle on a revoked license that caused great bodily harm and operating a vehicle under the influence, authorities said in a news release Monday.

Authorities said Vandervere was driving a white GMC pickup truck erratically and speeding when he rear-ended a Jeep Cherokee carrying four people while heading east on the 21600 block of Highway 50 at 6:45 p.m. Sunday.

The criminal complaint said Wisconsin State Patrol officials estimated the truck was traveling at 100 miles per hour in the 55 mph zone, Fox Channel 6 in Milwaukee reported.

The crash killed Michael Rizzo, 67, Vincent Rizzo, 76, and Mary Rizzo, 74, all residents of Kenosha, Wisconsin. Driver Gerald Rizzo, 67, also of Kenosha, was taken to the hospital, where he remains in stable but serious condition.

Michael Rizzo was pronounced dead at the scene, while Mary and Vincent Rizzo were pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said.

Authorities said Michael and Vincent Rizzo were doctors in Wisconsin.

Evidence at the scene indicated the "presence of intoxicants on Timothy's breath," authorities said in the news release. A blood sample was taken and is undergoing testing.

Vandervere was treated at a hospital, then arrested by the Kenosha County sheriff's office.

Vandervere has a 2005 charge of driving under the influence resulting in great bodily harm, authorities said in the news release. He holds a valid Illinois driver's license, but his Wisconsin driver's license was revoked. He must post the entire $2 million bond to be released pending trial.
