Man hit by truck in McHenry Home Depot parking lot dies

A 71-year-old Johnsburg man died Monday after being hit by a pickup truck in the parking lot of the Home Depot at 2461 N. Richmond Road in McHenry, according to news releases from the Lake County coroner's office and the McHenry Police Department.

William F. Dammeyer was struck by a 2008 GMC Sierra near the entrance of the Home Depot at 12:41 p.m. Sunday, according to McHenry police.

Dammeyer was taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital and then flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he died at 1:21 a.m., the coroner's office said.

An autopsy determined Dammeyer died due to multiple injuries suffered in the collision, according to the coroner's office.

The truck's driver, 19-year-old Christian J. Zientko, was cited for disobeying a stop sign, McHenry police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
