Ross, Garner, O'Brien win Gurnee village board race

Two incumbent trustees and a newcomer emerged from a crowded field of candidates to win Gurnee village board seats Tuesday.

Incumbents Cheryl Ross and Greg Garner led the pack, while challenger Quin O'Brien was third with all precincts reporting and early voting and mailed ballots counted.

According to unofficial totals: Ross had 1,263 votes, Garner had 1,011 votes, and O'Brien had 866 votes.

Garner and Jacobs have both served three terms on the board.

"I'm thankful that they have the confidence in me to further the success of Gurnee," Garner said. "I think we've done a great job. The way we run the town is second to none."

O'Brien, a real estate agent, praised the other candidates in the race.

"I'd like to say mazel tov to everyone for running an aboveboard race. We maintained friendly all the way through," O'Brien said. "I knew we had a ton of great candidates and I'm honored to have been chosen."

Warren Township High School student Matthew Duray finished fourth with 631 votes. Incumbent Michael D. Jacobs was fifth with 619 votes, followed by Jamie Seaton with 328 votes and Ryan Horath with 327 votes.

Joshua S. Amann, a first-time candidate who suspended his campaign months ago but whose name still appeared on the ballot, earned 139 votes.
