Police: Palatine woman fired bullet into neighbor's kitchen

A Palatine woman fired a gun inside her home Friday night, sending a bullet through the kitchen of a neighbor's house, police say.

Palatine police say officers responded to a report of a loud noise inside a home in the 300 block of West Hamilton Lane shortly after 11 p.m. Friday. A 31-year-old woman who lives in the home told officers she found holes in her kitchen window and cabinets, police said.

Officers later determined the holes were caused by a single bullet that had landed on a hallway floor just outside the kitchen, police said.

During a search of the nearby area, officers found what appeared to be a bullet hole in the window of an adjacent residence, police said.

Officers then questioned Christine M. Meehan, 41, who lives in the house, and a 42-year-old man who had been visiting. Meehan told officers she and the man had been drinking alcohol throughout the night, police said.

According to police, Meehan said the man told her he had a pistol and placed it on the table in front of her. She told officers she picked up the gun and fired a single shot through a window, police said.

Officers reported finding the pistol inside a backpack belonging to the man and a spent shell casing in Meehan's pocket.

Meehan is charged with felony reckless discharge of a firearm. Her next court appearance is scheduled for April 30.
