2 incumbents, 1 challenger elected in Buffalo Grove board race

The race for three seats on the Buffalo Grove village board was one of the more lively - and populated - municipal contests in the Northwest suburbs, with nine candidates fighting it out.

Unofficial results put incumbent Eric Smith in the lead, followed by challenger Gregory S. Pike Jr. and incumbent David Weidenfeld.

Also in the race were six more challengers: Soojae Lee, Adam Moodhe, Carolyn Pinta, Tim Kobler, Rachel Hausman Masse and Larry Steingold.

Smith had 2,018 votes; Pike had 1,875 votes; and Weidenfeld had 1,781 votes.

As for the other candidates: Lee had 1,766 votes; Pinta had 1,646 votes; Moodhe had 1,152, Steingold had 1,033 votes; and Kobler had 962 votes.

The totals included all Election Day votes, early voting and vote-by-mail ballots in Cook and Lake counties.

During the campaign, Smith and Weidenfeld emphasized recent village accomplishments, including the opening of a Woodman's Food Market and the development of a burgeoning industrial area.

Masse, Kobler and Steingold ran as a slate. They sent residents mailers attacking village president candidate Michael Terson for receiving a $5,000 campaign contribution from a would-be developer and other issues.
