One day of supervision for off-duty cop who pointed gun at Rosemont bar customer

An off-duty Chicago police officer was sentenced to one day of supervision after he was found guilty Thursday of a misdemeanor for pointing his gun in a Rosemont bar.

William Szepi, 30, was found guilty of aggravated assault and was ordered to pay $489 in fines, court records show. His bench trial was at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows.

Szepi was a customer at the restaurant at the time of the incident. He was trying to help bouncers escort people out of the restaurant after a fight broke out there at about 2:54 a.m. June 24, according to a news release from Rosemont police.

Witnesses said Szepi and other customers got into an argument, after which Szepi pulled a firearm from his waistband and pointed it in front of him, police said. Another customer immediately disarmed Szepi, police said.
