New human resources leader in District 21

A longtime educator in Wheeling Township Elementary District 21 has been appointed as the district's next assistant superintendent for human resources.

Bob Gurney, currently principal at Cooper Middle School, will take over the district-level position July 1, upon Lynn Glickman's departure. She was named Grayslake Elementary District 46 superintendent in January, and begins her new job this summer.

Gurney, who has spent 17 years in District 21 as a principal, assistant principal and teacher, was one of 10 candidates and three finalists for the assistant superintendent job. The school board last Thursday approved his $148,000-a-year employment contract.
