Authorities seek man who tried to lure child near Wheaton

Authorities are looking for a man who tried to lure a boy walking near Wheaton last weekend.

The 8-year-old boy told authorities he was walking his dog near Flint Creek and Orchard roads about 4:50 p.m. Saturday when a man drove up next to him in a white SUV. The man asked if the child wanted candy and drove away when the boy ignored him, according to the DuPage County sheriff's office.

The boy saw the same vehicle a short time later on Flint Creek Road west of Orchard Road, authorities said. The boy ran between two homes when he saw the vehicle again. The driver then made an abrupt U-turn and was last seen going east on Flint Creek Road.

The man is described as white and heavyset, with red hair, authorities said. He is 40 to 50 years old.
