Issue questions

What are the most important issues facing your community and how do you intend to address them?

The most important issues to me right now are Village growth and the road program. There are always other concerns such as economic development that are being looked at but with the road program being started in 2011 we are still dealing with several areas in town with crumbling roads. Although we try keep up with them with crack-sealing it has become apparent that we will not be able to wait until 2021 for the next round of road repaving. When it comes to Village growth we have a couple of things to look at. With a new subdivision being built we need to increase our water supply. This has become concern number one for the new development since no one wants to turn on a faucet and have no water come out. By building two new wells and expanding the water treatment plant Gilberts will be able double its current water capacity. We have also had to look at increasing public services due to population growth. This includes increasing the number of full-time police officers to maintain the level of public safety that Gilberts residents are used to.

What makes you the best candidate for the job?

I believe I am the best candidate for the job because I believe that everything that the Village Board does should be for the betterment of the residents of Gilberts. Candidates should always run for the right reason and that reason can only be to serve the residents.

Describe your leadership style and explain how you think that will be effective in producing actions and decisions with your village board or city council.

I can describe my leadership style with one word: inclusive. No one person is an expert on every issue that a Village Board faces when deciding how best to spend the taxpayers' hard-earned dollars. The residents of Gilberts are better served by a Board that listens not only to the issues being presented but also to all the potential solutions to those issues.

How would you describe the condition of your community's budget, and what are the most important specific actions the town should take to assure providing the level of services people want?

The Village's budget is very strong. It has been for years. But there is always room for improvement, and to me two of the most important areas that we need to work harder on are strengthening our equipment maintenance budget and being able to handle road repairs outside of the 20 year window we currently employ in the road program.

What's one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?

A few years ago a neighbor to Gilberts named Bob Oury co-authored a book called Looking Back at Gilberts, which is a pictorial history of Gilberts that I think is amazing. One thing that I would very much like to see in Gilberts is a downtown area that preserves the small-town history of Gilberts as well as invites people to shop, eat and enjoy spending time there.
