Bartlett basement fire leaves home uninhabitable

A basement fire Thursday in the 600 block of Gardenia Lane in Bartlett left the home uninhabitable, Bartlett Fire Protection District officials said in a news release Friday.

Firefighters arrived at 5:32 p.m. and reported heavy smoke. The fire was declared under control at 5:46 p.m. Firefighters opened all the windows and ventilated the house of smoke once the fire was under control.

Damage estimates are not yet available and the fire remains under investigation by the Bartlett Fire District investigators.

The fire was fought by 28 firefighters, staffing four fire engines, two ladder trucks, and two ambulances which responded to the scene along with four command officers and two fire investigators. Units from the Hanover Park Fire Department were among the initial responders under a mutual aid agreement.
