Issue questions
What are the most important issues facing your community and how do you intend to address them?
We have a lot of great things going on in the village. We need to make sure that we continue responsible development and that includes making sure that our downtown remains on the tax rolls. We cannot burden our taxpayers any further. Over half of our population
is under 45 (per the 2000 census) so we need to make sure we are planning long term for our residents. It is very important that we recognize all revenue, including the downtown area by the Metra stop.
What makes you the best candidate for the job?
I have experience on the Administration and Finance Committee and I have a background in engineering. I also plan on being a long term resident of Winfield in the future. I'm looking out for the residents best interests because they are my best interests. This
is a great community and I want it to continue to thrive.
Describe your leadership style and explain how you think that will be effective in producing actions and decisions with your village board or city council.
I know it is cliché but I subscribe to the old saying "we have two ears and one mouth". I believe in listening. Gathering facts and information is the best way to solve a problem. If there are differing opinions then I seek to find common ground because a united
board is the most successful.
How would you describe the condition of your community's budget, and what are the most important specific actions the town should take to assure providing the level of services people want?
We have an award winning group in our town. It's a fantastic group and everyone is very talented. With that being said, that doesn't mean that there aren't challenges. We need to make sure that our downtown area is developed and remains on our tax rolls. We cannot
burden the village residents anymore. For a village of 10,000 we have been able to provide fantastic services to the entire village. We can continue that while working with businesses.
What's one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?
We need to make sure while we grow we continue to address parking. There are definitely peak times around the downtown area, specifically Metra commuting times and school drop off/pick up times. We need to make sure that we don't cause any stress on those already utilizing the area.
