Blanket-making event at Prospect High held in memory of local girl

The annual Knots of Love event will be held Friday at Prospect High School in honor of Lauren Graver, a 10-year-old fourth-grader from Mount Prospect who died in 2017 from cancer.

When Lauren was admitted to the hospital for treatment at age 7, she was given a rainbow-patterned fleece blanket. Her teachers and classmates at Lions Park Elementary then started a blanket-making event, donating them to pediatric patients at Advocate Lutheran General Children's Hospital in Park Ridge.

Now in its fourth year, the event is scheduled from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at Prospect, where two of Lauren's siblings attend. The community is invited to bring materials such as fleece to assemble blankets. Some 700 blankets were made in 2018.

The family also will be selling T-shirts to raise money for a scholarship in Lauren's memory. To donate, visit 214foundation.org/scholarships.
