Issue questions

What are the most important issues facing your community and how do you intend to address them?

Making sure our business park stays full and updated! It's the bread basket for not only our community but the entire N.W. suburbs. We are in the midst of making a large reinvestment to make sure that all the public infrastructure is updated to meet today's needs to keep it desirable for future businesses. We also need to work on as many ways as possible to reach out to our community to keep them informed and updated on the goings on in Elk Grove. We have to use today's technology through internet and other ways to reach out in a timely fashion so they can feel they are being heard and also so they can be part of the decision making process. Finally we need to remain flexible to meet the ever changing effects of the impacts passed onto local government from the State and Federal governments.

What makes you the best candidate for the job?

My many years of living in Elk Grove, raising my family, involvement in community groups and years as a Village Trustee gives me a solid foundation to be able to work with other board members and the experience to give informed answers.

Describe your leadership style and explain how you think that will be effective in producing actions and decisions with your village board.

I'm proud of my ability to work with my fellow board members. We have a great history of being able to disagree without being disagreeable, something that's sadly lacking in a lot of governments today. We have discussions on issues facing us, debate those issues then vote on the solutions and once the vote is done we unite behind our vote and move on together. We don't have council wars, we work together for the betterment of the community. That is why Elk Grove has been so successful!

How would you describe the condition of your community's budget, and what are the most important specific actions the town should take to assure providing the level of services people want?

Our budget is in great shape. We have not raised general property taxes in years, our business park is humming like never before and we're providing the best services for our residents and businesses. However we can't rest on our past successes, we have to find different ways to stay financially strong, hence us doing the sponsorship of the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl. That was a great way to bring everything Elk Grove has to offer to the world. Our Elk Grove 2025 plan reinvests our excess revenue back into the community to keep it strong and on the cutting edge for the future. We must not rest on our past successes and stay vigilant at keeping Elk Grove updated and strong.

What's one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?

When first elected to the board, my concern was to have a fourth fire house built and have a community nurse. Those items came to be and over time have changed. Some of the nurses duties started to be duplicated by other agencies and when she retired the Fire Department assimilated her duties. We are building a new fire station which combines fire house 8 and 9 to better serve our community. Many new and varied ideas are brought up and discussed all the time. I work diligently to keep abreast of what the Village may need to excel and continue to be "The Exceptional Community". Listening to residents and businesses has been and will always be my for most goal.
