Fox Lake trustee candidates differ on key issues to the village

Candidates running for Fox Lake trustee have differing views on what they see as the most important issue facing the village during the next four years.

Incumbents Nancy Koske, Danice "Dani" Moore and Brian Marr are challenged by political newcomer Glenn Close in the race for three 4-year terms on the village board on the April 2 ballot. Moore was appointed to fill a board vacancy in January 2018.

Close, a 61-year-old fleet mechanic, said senior busing and recording meetings on video are two important issues.

He added residents should also be afforded the right to have more say on important village issues.

"I believe the residents need more say in how the village handles the outcome of these issues, not let decisions be made behind closed doors like they are now," he said in a Daily Herald candidate questionnaire.

Koske, a 67-year-old former Fox Lake mayor and a village trustee since 2007, said economic development and increasing parks and recreation are the key issues.

"All are being addressed through strategic planning teams and working close with staff," she said.

Marr, a landscape architect who did not provide his age, said infrastructure improvements and economic development will be important topics in the next four years.

"Continuing to seek new businesses and cultivate existing businesses by continuing to pursue a positive business environment through the use of financial tools, civic improvement, and the use of the arts in economic development," Marr said.

Moore, a 35-year-old teachers assistant, agreed that improving infrastructure is imperative to Fox Lake.

"One of the most important issues facing our community is updating our infrastructure. We are on the right track and with the help of our talented staff we have managed to secure funding through grants for our roads and other infrastructure projects," she said.

"Additionally, by making smart, responsible financial decisions and planning, we are working and will continue on work on planning for future capital projects."
