Twenty-three apply for Lake County judge vacancy

Twenty-three attorneys have filed an application for the associate judge vacancy in Lake County's 19th Judicial Circuit, Chief Judge Jay W. Ukena announced.

The applicants will be interviewed by the circuit judges and evaluated by members of the Lake County Bar Association's Judicial Selection and Retention Committee in the coming weeks, officials said. After the review process is finished, circuit judges will select two candidates to be placed on a ballot and then vote on the finalists.

The public has the opportunity to comment on potential judges by mailing their remarks to the Office of the Chief Judge, Lake County Courthouse, 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, IL 60085-4359. Letters will be accepted until March 4. The judicial vacancy is a result of the March 1 retirement of Associate Judge John J. Scully.
