Man killed in Carpentersville crash identified

A Carpentersville man killed Tuesday in a single-vehicle crash on Route 31 has been identified as 24-year-old Ray Altamirano, the Kane County coroner's office said Wednesday.

Altamirano was the sole occupant of a vehicle that was found on its side and up against a tree along Route 31 between Lincoln Avenue and Miller Road, Carpentersville police said. A witness reported the vehicle was heading south at a "high rate of speed" before the crash, which occurred at 12:24 p.m.

Fire crews lifted the vehicle and extricated Altamirano, who was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:44 p.m., officials said.

An autopsy performed Wednesday determined Altamirano died from multiple injuries, according to a news release from the coroner's office. Toxicology results are pending.

An investigation is ongoing.
