Driver crashes SUV into Batavia restaurant

Pepe's Mexican Restaurant in Batavia was evacuated Wednesday after a driver crashed into the building, police said.

An 87-year-old man was driving through the parking lot of the restaurant at 4 S. Van Buren St. when he lost control of his Toyota 4-Runner and struck the building about 1:30 p.m., police said. The man then backed up and drove into a snowbank on the north end of the parking lot, where the vehicle came to a stop.

No injuries were reported.

No citations were issued because the crash occurred on private property, police said.

The city's building department inspected the restaurant, and the damaged wall was secured.
