Woodstock man sent to prison for 7 years for cocaine, DUI

A 32-year-old Woodstock man has been sentenced to seven years in prison - six for a cocaine charge after authorities searched his residence in 2017 and another for a felony DUI while he was free on bond.

Saul R. Cazares pleaded guilty Wednesday to felony possession of cocaine up to 15 grams with intent to deliver, as well as aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, according to prosecutors and McHenry County court records.

According to prosecutors, Cazares was charged after authorities executed a search warrant at his residence and seized 12.2 grams of cocaine, a digital scale and several cellphones.

Cazares was arrested March 18, 2018, on charges of aggravated DUI because his license was revoked, prosecutors said. He had posted bond in the cocaine case.

Judge Sharon Prather this week accepted the plea agreement in which prosecutors dismissed four other felony charges, including the most severe charge of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school or park. In the cocaine case, Cazares also must pay $6,425 in court fees and fines. He also pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI and received the minimum prison term of a year. He also must pay $1,978 in fines and fees on that case, and his sentences will be served consecutively because the DUI was committed while he was free on bond.

Cazares can have his prison term cut in half for good behavior; he also gets credit for nearly five months at the McHenry County jail while the cases were pending.
