Man killed in apparent hit-and-run crash in Waukegan identified

A 22-year-old man has been identified as the victim of an apparent hit-and-run crash Feb. 3 in Waukegan, authorities said.

Preliminary autopsy results indicate Christopher Harris of Waukegan died from blunt force injuries he suffered when struck by an automobile, the Lake County coroner's office said Monday.

Authorities said toxicology results are still pending, and the crash remains under investigation.

The fatal crash occurred about 11:45 p.m. Feb. 3 in the 2900 block of Grand Avenue, authorities said. Waukegan police officers called to the location found a person later identified as Harris lying in the street and determined he had been hit by a vehicle which left the area, police said.

Investigators say Harris was in the curb lane for eastbound traffic, when he was struck by the vehicle. Harris was transported to a hospital, where he died early Feb. 4.
