Prospect Heights cleaning, inspecting sewers

The city of Prospect Heights is in the process of having more than 200,000 linear feet, or almost 40 miles, of sanitary sewer lines televised and cleaned, officials said in the village newsletter.

The city decided to undertake the project because of concern about the condition of the city's sewer infrastructure after the city took over the defunct Old Town Sanitary District in 2015. The two-year inspection process will be completed this year. It will provide the city with the information it needs to properly maintain the sewer system.

The city took over the Old Town system under state legislation after the voters who lived in the district rejected a tax increase and the system ran out of money. In 2017, the city tripled rates to people served by the system in order to adequately fund repairs and maintenance.

Prospect Heights unanimously approves tripling sewer rates
