Believe Project: $100 to help family facing hard times

Today's recipient of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Beverley Caliendo of Hoffman Estates. Here is an excerpt of her story:

"There is this sweet, giving woman from my church who loves to bake for everyone. She and her husband (who is a veteran) lost their house and then her husband hurt his back and can't work.

"Having had to use our church's food pantry, she continues to volunteer there to give back, even as they continue to struggle.

"It is wonderful to have a project like this to come along those who have hit hard times and I know they will be grateful for the money to help with expenses."

• The Believe Project is awarding at least $100 daily in January to people with good ideas for how to use the money to do a good deed for someone else.
