Parks leader returns to Arlington Heights on interim basis

The longtime former executive director of the Arlington Heights Park District is returning to the job on an interim basis.

Steve Scholten, who led the park district from 2008 to 2016, was appointed interim executive director by the park board Tuesday night to oversee day-to-day operations in the absence of Rick Hanetho. Hanetho has been on a leave of absence since late October for undisclosed reasons.

Scholten's appointment - for which he will be paid $1,800 a week - is to last until the time when Hanetho returns.

Scholten is a vice president at Northbrook-based GovHR USA, an executive recruiting and interim staffing firm that works for local government and nonprofit clients. He spent 40 years in parks and recreation, including roles in Arlington Heights, Bloomingdale, Medinah, Glen Ellyn and Elk Grove.
