Liquor service hours change in Rolling Meadows

Early risers going out for breakfast in Rolling Meadows can now sip mimosas and Bloody Marys while they nosh on eggs and bacon.

The city council on Tuesday unanimously approved changes to liquor service hours on weekends and holidays at businesses holding certain liquor licenses, including a number of restaurants and banquet halls. Those businesses now have permission to begin pouring at 7 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, instead of 11 a.m.

"An earlier start will help these businesses, especially the ones who do champagne buffets," City Manager Barry Krumstok said. "One group on Algonquin Road had to wait to bring out the champagne."

City officials heard from some business owners who said they were at a competitive disadvantage with restaurants in other towns.

Vince Bufalino, owner of the Stadium Sports Club, said the expanded weekend hours will help as he looks to open a cafe in 2019. As for the sports bar, he says he'll be able to open earlier and offer a breakfast buffet on weekends, especially during football season.
