A buffet of eateries - including a buffet - opening in Arlington Heights in 2019

There's a buffet of food and beverage-type businesses - including a buffet itself - new to Arlington Heights in 2019.

Golden Corral opened New Year's Eve at 445 E. Palatine Road within the Town & Country Center, replacing the shuttered Old Country Buffet that closed in 2016. And just up the block, a new Arby's is scheduled to open in the next month or so, replacing a closed Wendy's at 100 W. Rand Road in Arlington Plaza, according to Michael Mertes, the village's business development coordinator.

"We're a hungry community," Mertes quipped.

Across the street within the Annex of Arlington, Binny's Beverage Depot relocated a few doors down last week to a larger location at 35 W. Rand Road. The new Binny's location - in the spot of a former hhgregg - takes up some 34,000 square feet, whereas the old spot was just under 22,000, Mertes said.

Further southeast along Rand Road, the former Tore & Luke's will be replaced by a similar fast-casual eatery to be named Grill 12. A new owner has purchased the building, but an opening date hasn't yet been set, Mertes said.

Kilwins, a Michigan-based chocolate, fudge, and ice cream shop chain with six other suburban locations and two in Chicago, is undergoing interior renovations at 16 W. Campbell St. in the downtown in anticipation of an opening early this year.

And on the south end of town, Speedy Tamales is expected to replace Chowpatti Vegetarian Restaurant at 1035 S. Arlington Heights Road, which closed when the owner retired last fall after 35 years in business.
