Police: Aurora man groped woman, fought with bar bouncers

A 32-year-old man groped a woman at an Aurora bar and then fought with bouncers and officers early Sunday morning, according to police.

Misael Aguirre, of the 700 block of Benton Street, Aurora, faces four felony counts of aggravated battery to a police officer and four counts of aggravated battery in a public place, along with misdemeanor battery and resisting arrest, according to Kane County court records.

Police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said authorities were called to the Black Door Pub, 255 E. Indian Trail, just after 1 a.m. Sunday after Aguirre was accused of groping a 28-year-old woman.

"She understandably got upset and told bar security what happened," Ferrelli said. "When security confronted Aguirre and told him he had to leave, he started fighting with them. Eventually the fight spilled to the outside of the bar where one of our sergeants witnessed it and helped the security personnel control Aguirre."

The bouncers sustained minor injuries but refused to be taken to a hospital, Ferrelli said.

Aguirre is being held at the Kane County jail on $75,000 bail, meaning he must post $7,500 to be released while the case is pending. If he does post bond, he is to have no contact with the victims and is not allowed to enter the Black Door Pub, records show.

Aguirre is next due in court on Jan. 24 and, if convicted of the most severe charge, faces a punishment ranging from probation to up to seven years in prison.

Aguirre was arrested in June 2011 by Aurora police and charged with driving with a suspended license and possession of a controlled substance. He was found not guilty of the drug charge but guilty of driving with a suspended license after a bench trial and was sentenced to 10 days in jail and six months of conditional discharge, Kane County court records show.
